My path to the Book Arts was shaped by an enduring love of books, words and letter forms. Through the exploration of typography, calligraphy and bookbinding I found a way of expressing my creativity.
Wonderfully, all chosen paths have branches that lead to further discovery. I now experiment with a myriad of art mediums, realizing my quest to integrate books and art.
I work intuitively, concealing and revealing my thoughts and emotions. Pieces evolve in organic layers of collage and paint, fluid lines and pieces of text. Often, I begin by choosing text that inspires the art. Words may become a focal point or they may appear more subtly, as pattern or texture.
My book art embodies an age-old quality: an underlying connection to the mythologies that shape my life. Classical and fantasy literature, medieval manuscripts, nature and ruins continue to inspire me. More than thirty years of belonging to CBBAG has kept my passion for book arts alive.
